Tulou: A unique architectural wonder

Tulou, which could date back to the Song and Yuan dynasties, are a type of large, enclosed and fortified earth building. They are a traditional Hakka communal residence found in the mountainous areas in Fujian and Guangdong provinces. Tulou were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as a cultural site in 2008.
