HONG KONG, April 29 -- Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of China's top political advisory body, said on Wednesday that the proposed electoral reform package for choosing the Hong Kong's next leader marks the "starting point" of the "one man, one vote" election.

Speaking to media at the former chief executive's office, Tung, who is also a former chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), urged Hong Kong citizens to push forward reforms and help realize the historical universal suffrage.

The HKSAR government has said they would try to deliver the package to the Legislative Council in June or July. The package needs the consent of a two-thirds majority of the Legislative Council to get endorsed.
